MBBS FRANZCOG DDU (O&G)

Dr Lauren De Luca MBBS FRANZCOG DDU (O&G) is an obstetrician gynaecologist based at the Royal Women’s Hospital and Frances Perry House, Melbourne.

Originally from Melbourne, Lauren completed her medical degree at the University of Adelaide before returning to Victoria in 2008 to undertake specialist training at the Royal Women’s Hospital. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2014, following comprehensive training across a range of Victorian hospitals. She holds a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.

Lauren has previously held prominent leadership positions. In her roles as Medical Director of Birth Centre (Royal Women’s Hospital) and Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Western Health), she was instrumental in ensuring both safety and patient experience were prioritised. Lauren continues to work at the Royal Women’s Hospital, where she takes great pleasure in teaching and mentoring junior medical staff.

Outside of work, Lauren is married and is the proud mum of two energetic boys, Oscar and Felix, who keep her on her toes with their busy sporting schedules.

MBChB FRANZCOG CMFM DDU

Dr Su Lynn Khong MBChB FRANZCOG CMFM DDU graduated from the University of Auckland and completed her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in New Zealand. She moved to Melbourne in 2013.

Su Lynn currently works in Joan Kirner Women’s & Children’s Hospital as a subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine. She also holds the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine. Su Lynn manages high risk pregnancies with special interest in maternal medical disorders, fetal anomalies, preterm birth, recurrent pregnancy losses, pre pregnancy counselling as well as diagnostic procedures.

As a mother herself, Su Lynn is committed to providing patient centred care for women.

Subspecialist Obstetrician

Stefan is a maternal fetal medicine subspecialist obstetrician based primarily at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, where he is Director of Maternity Services and Acting Director of the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine. His clinical engagements cover the spectrum of high-risk pregnancy care, and include preterm birth prevention, multiple pregnancy, fetal medicine and maternal medical disorders in pregnancy.

He also performs tertiary-level fetal and gynaecological ultrasound. Stefan’s primary research focus is on the maternal neurological effects of pre-eclampsia.

His PhD research evaluated the utility of maternal ophthalmic ultrasound in assessing changes in the cerebrovasculature and intracranial pressure of pre-eclamptic women. Other research interests include structural and genetic fetal anomalies, red blood cell alloimmunisation, preterm birth prevention, and early pregnancy prediction of later complications.

He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers on these topics, has acted as site co-ordinator for a number of international randomised controlled trials, and is CI on a number of grants evaluating different models of maternity care. Stefan is actively engaged in teaching at all levels, from medical students to advanced specialist trainees, and holds an honorary position as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health.

He has a longstanding interest in prevocational medical education, and serves as an accreditation team leader for the intern accreditation authorities in Victoria and Queensland. He also serves on the Council of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand as immediate past president, and as the Clinical Lead for Preterm Birth with Safer Care Victoria, Stefan also participates in the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance.

In 2024, he was appointed to the Neonatal and Stillbirth Subcommittees of the Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity (CCOPMM).

Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist

Dr Paul Brooks is a Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist trained in both Melbourne and internationally in Canada. He was previously Head of Echocardiography and Fetal Cardiology at British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to training in Paediatrics he spent two years as a volunteer medical officer working in Vanuatu; this experience has shaped his ongoing approach to helping families understand and manage their children’s heart conditions. Paul enjoys developing a supportive relationship with his patients and families, many of whom he meets and follows throughout childhood.

Genetic Counsellor

Kate Riley is a Genetic Counsellor with extensive experience in prenatal genetic counselling. She completed her training in genetic counselling at the University of Melbourne in 2007. Kate has experience working in many speciality areas of genetic counselling, having previously worked at Monash Ultrasound for Women, Monash Medical Centre, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Women’s and Children’s hospital in Adelaide. Her role at Western Imaging is to provide high quality genetic counselling for Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening, Genetic Carrier screening and diagnostic testing procedures. She also works in the Maternal Fetal Medicine department at Sunshine hospital and has a passion for working with women and couples about the implications of genetic conditions and to assist with informed decision making.

Sonographer

Bowen Salvas trained as a Sonographer at Monash Medical Centre, a tertiary referral hospital where he specialised in Obstetrics and Paediatrics. He was a senior sonographer as part of the Fetal Diagnostic Unit (FDU) at Monash Health. He has worked in tertiary Obstetric practices and public hospitals both in Australia and in London (Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals). Bowen has worked as the key obstetric Sonographer at the William Angliss Hospital and currently works as a senior Sonographer at the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at Sunshine Hospital.

Sonographer

Danoush Fardsavar currently works in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at Sunshine Hospital and oversees the ultrasound training of Obstetrics and Gynaecology registrars and midwives. He originally trained at Monash Health and was involved with Fetal Diagnostic Unit (FDU), Fetal Monitoring Unit (FMU) and vascular imaging labs at Southern Health. Danoush worked in tertiary obstetric practices and public hospitals both in Australia and in London (Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals). Danoush has extensive experience as a tutor Sonographer and has successfully mentored a large number of Melbourne based Sonographers.

Sonographer

Catherine Jeyabala trained at St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) in general and emergency Ultrasound. She then went on to train at Mercy Hospital for Women (Heidelberg), a tertiary centre for Women’s imaging. To further her exposure in Women’s imaging and Obstetrics, Catherine worked at Monash Ultrasound for Women. She is currently working at the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at Sunshine Hospital. She is passionate about Fetal cardiology and ensuring all her patients have a caring experience.
